| | Selbstdarstellung: | | What's Being Said About Transparency Since many readers aren't familiar with the Transparency web site, this page provides some facts about the author and information on what others are saying and doing in relation to the site. Many of the statements that are quoted also provide a good overview of what Transparency is about. The author: My name is Ken Sanes and I live in the Metro Boston area. I worked in the newspaper business from about 1978-1989, where I held various positions, including editorial writer and columnist. Over the years, I've published a handful of pieces in prominent publications, most notably in the Boston Globe, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Nation and Newsday. I created Transparency in 1997 to offer a portion of what is now 24 years of writing on the media, popular culture and human nature. Since the site's inception, these writings have been used in dozens of college classrooms around the English speaking world, and numerous students have cited them in papers. In addition, the site is linked to by hundreds of sites around the Internet, including college sites for classroom use, online magazines, and web indexes of the best resources on the Internet. Below are some examples of how the site has been used and what has been said about it. It should be noted that none of these comments mean the authors endorse everything that is written on the site. * The web site for the Institut Universitari de l'Audiovisual in Barcelona describes Transparency as: "A magnificent theoretical area which contains a careful selection of critiques of the mass media, politics, and popular culture. It tries, as its slogan indicates, to aid understanding of and reflection on various aspects of cinema, television, news, political rhetoric, theme parks, advertising, video games, and the Internet.... Professional, exhaustive and to the point. Simply outstanding." |
