The GIS Web Map Portal of Prague Historical Cartography
The GIS web map portal on Prague historical cartography was presented in ESSHC 2010 for the first time. Both authors of this paper, Eva Chodejovska and Jiri Krejci, have been running on the project, enriching and improving the technical background as well as the scientifical aspect of the GIS web map portal. Many new layers – old maps – were added focusing on the city of Prague as a whole and not only on a single „test-district“ Vinohrady any more. By now, a user visiting http://fsv.cvut.cz/praha/vinohrady (later this year http://towns.hiu.cas.cz) can study more than 20 old maps of Prague dating back to the XVIII and XIX century and compare them with modern ones. Our paper will discuss 1. creation of digital reconstructional (thematic-historical) maps and their publication in the web map portal, 2. data-basis taking in old large-scale maps of Prague as an integral part of the GIS web map portal.
