Shifts in global labour relations: Western Europe, Russia, East Asia, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa 1500-2000 compared
This is the third time that we can take stock of the results of the collab as it stands now. In comparison to earlier occasions (last time was at the ENIUGH conference in London, Spring 2010), a number of cases have been added, especially from Sub-Saharan Africa. Besides, some conceptual issues will be discussed, in particular apparent discrepancies which appear between data on monetization (available from numismatics and archeology) and on commodification (available from our collab). For certain parts of the globe monetization seems to come before commodification, which is a paradox, urging us to reconsider our ideas about commodification of labour.
