Empowerment of Zambian Women
Zambia is one of the most urbanized countries in Africa. Over the years, it has achieved a reasonable level of democracy. However, women are not benefiting much from Zambia’s democratic governance. Tradition imposes many restrictions on women both politically and economically. Since the country moved to multi-party democracy in the 1990s, there has been significant progress towards reducing gender inequality and achieving targeted set under the second and third Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Zambia is looking forward to reducing the still significant gender gaps in political representation, economic participation and education for all. The paper looks into the overall efforts that the Zambian Government is making at achieving gender equality.
