The familiar relations in the reign of Dinis: The protagonism of queen Isabel
The relations established in a marriage are very important for the king’s life and for all the monarchy, therefore they provide and/or they determine alliances and oppositions. Thus, a woman who for the marriage is queen, as Isabel de Aragão, starts to play an important role next to the husband, the king and of its court and in the education of the children, especially of the oldest son. Isabel de Aragão is, in the Dinis court, the example of faithful wife and careful mother. But, for its ancestry, Isabel is still a present and interventive sister, next to the crown of Aragão. As queen of Portugal, Isabel affirms the immense possibilities of intervention that, for the affectives relations, can establish, in the political, social, cultural and religious sphere of action.
