The Cultural Revolution of Animal Rights Veganism
In the late 20th Century, Western society has began a new movement, the Animal Rights Movement, that has lead to a sub-culture of veganism. This panel will discuss the history of the animal rights movement and how that has lead to the new subculture of veganism. Animal Rights Veganism, as a contemporary new movement and culture, has grown faster and created all the attributes of any other cultural movement throughout history. This panel will discuss vegans throughout history, including, but not limited to Einstein, George Bernard Shaw, and Buddist icons to analyze the common reasons for taking up this belief. The discussion on cultural revolution will describe what the catalyst has been for the animal rights movement and how the culture is strictly defined. The vegan animal rights culture is found in every country and shares the same identifying factors. Some identifying common characteristics globally is the food that is eaten; another would be the clothes worn and the stores and meeting places that are frequented by animal rights activists. The bond of this new culture will be compared to a philosophy as well as a religion. A brief discussion on religion vs. philosophy will follow with an indepth analysis of the legal implications of making veganism a religion. The panel will also describe the laws of America and how they differ from the values of a this animal rights vegan sub-culture. Contemporary examples of governments criminalizing this sub-culture will also be addressed. The panel will end with a projection of how this culture will develop and which course it will take.
