Inheritance of the House of Montaos in Galicia during the XVthh and XVIth centuries
| We propose to analyze the noble inheritances in Galicia (NW of Spain) during the XVth and XVIth centuries starting from the House of Montaos example. This Galician noble house, pertaining to the Bermúdez de Castro, accumulated a very important inheritance of lands and farming income in some rural areas of the western Galicia between 1420 and 1550. So first we are going to describe the different phases and structures used to accumulate its agricultural inheritance. Then, we analyze that inheritance composition, paying attention to its integral units ("merindades" and country estates) and the benefits (farming income). And finally we are going to approach to the structures used by the Lord of Montaos to manage his agricultural income. The work in that income evolution will allow us to check whether this situation coincide with the economic trends of the Galicia and Castile kingdoms during these two centuries.
